Two courses start on September 8th!

    Success with your Latino Workforce

Concepts of communication and culture, and how they apply to your Latino workforce to create a positive and efficient work environment for all your employees. Rated 4.3 out of 5 by grower participants.

    Field Diagnosis of Plant Diseases

Teaches detection and diagnosis of common greenhouse and nursery diseases, including appropriate and field-friendly scouting and sampling techniques. Rated 4.4 out of 5 by grower participants

Success with your Latino Workforce is taught by Dr. Claudio Pasian, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at The Ohio State University where he taught for 25 years. This course will prepare non-Latino supervisors or coworkers of Latino employees to improve communication and efficiency in the workplace with a mixed culture workforce. This year we have increased the Spanish language training component of the course, including an AI chatbot to help translating Spanish horticulture terms. This intermediate course is only offered in English.

Field Diagnosis of Plant Diseases is taught by Dr. Carrie Harmon, Director of the UF/IFAS Plant Diagnostic Center in Gainesville, FL and Co-Director of the National Plant Diagnostic Network. Growers in the course have described her as a “clear, concise and informative instructor” who help them “feel more capable identifying disease problems, and less intimidated by the disease books on the shelf.” The course will help you identify diseases and differentiate between disease and other issues and learn field-friendly diagnostic methods. This intermediate course is part of the Plant Health Professional Certificate.

The courses run from September 8 to October 3, 2025. Each course costs US$285 per participant, with a 20% discount if you register 5 or more. All course material is completely online and available at any time of the day, and includes pre-recorded videos, an interactive discussion board with PhD professors, and quizzes. Two new modules are activated each week during each course, for a total of 8 learning modules. Click here to register (http://hort.ifas.ufl.edu/training/) and for more information. Or email us at greenhousetraining@ifas.ufl.edu.
