The affordable MicroRX Station provides valuable insights into critical environmental conditions via 4G cellular technology and cloud-based software

Press Release — As weather patterns are changing, it is more important than ever for researchers and growers to have a reliable system for recording and responding to climate conditions.

Onset, a world leader in data loggers and weather stations, announced today the launch of the new low-cost, web-enabled HOBO MicroRX Station. With 4G cellular technology for wide coverage and compatibility with the latest mobile networks, and station-side alarms, including a new accumulated rainfall alarm, the MicroRX makes it easier than ever to get better insights by remotely accessing data and receiving real-time alerts of critical conditions.

The HOBO MicroRX Station, combined with Onset’s research-grade plug-and-play environmental sensors, delivers data to the powerful cloud-based HOBOlink® software, featuring easy-to-create custom dashboards and the ability to export data or set automated delivery. As a result—whether monitoring crops or conducting research in agriculture, forestry or ecology—growers and researchers can easily consolidate and share their data, as well as get timely information whenever and wherever they need it.

Designed to withstand the harshest conditions, the tough, compact station also lets users choose between built-in solar power or battery power, making the MicroRX easy to mount, and deploy in either full sun or covered, secured locations.

“Researchers and growers have benefited from the proven performance of our HOBO environmental monitoring solutions to deliver the highest levels of accuracy, reliability, and performance,” said Onset President, Jim Towey. “Now, with our HOBO MicroRX Station, users gain affordable flexibility and ease-of-use in their environmental monitoring for timely insights wherever and whenever they need them.”

Key applications of the new HOBO MicroRX Station, include:

    • Environmental research – rugged and reliable microclimate monitoring in harsh field conditions, includes access to users’ data from anywhere
    • Agricultural research – field condition monitoring and data collection help save water, enhance crop quality, and increase yields
    • Commercial agriculture – critical field condition monitoring supports optimal irrigation, pest control, and harvest timing decisions
    • Water use tracking – optional water level sensors and integrated flow calculations enable automated water use tracking and alert notifications

    Robust, Configurable HOBO MicroRX Station

The HOBO MicroRX Station is a low-cost, cellular, web-enabled field monitoring solution. It features a compact size and rugged design to support long-term, reliable environmental monitoring, as well as configurable station-side alarms to provide immediate notification of critical conditions.

Onset makes it easy for customers to configure the stations to meet their specific needs. The core solution features the HOBO MicroRX Station, which offers user-selectable data plans and the ability to add up to five plug-and-play smart sensors for monitoring a range of environmental conditions. These research-grade environmental sensors measure a variety of parameters include rainfall, temperature, relative humidity, calculated evaporation, leaf wetness, soil temperature, light, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), solar radiation, and wind speed and direction. Additionally, the MicroRX Station can be ordered with an Onset water level sensor that has the integrated ability to calculate flow for most common weirs and flumes.

Power options include user-replaceable AA lithium batteries or a built-in 1.7 W solar panel with rechargeable battery pack (for more power, an external 5 W solar panel can replace the built-in solar panel).

    HOBOlink Cloud Software

HOBOlink, Onset’s web-enabled software platform, makes it easy to view data remotely and to manage the HOBO MicroRX Station and sensors. It features a customizable dashboard for instant visualization of current and historical data and enables users to set email or text alarm notifications when conditions reach user-set thresholds. Delivered as a cloud service, HOBOlink gives users instant access to site-specific climate data on any device, anywhere, anytime.

    Pricing and Availability

The HOBO MicroRX Station is available today, starting at $560. The annual cellular data service ranges in price, depending on the user’s requirements. For more information about the new HOBO MicroRX Station, visit /microrx.
